Nginx, a startup company of the IT cluster of the Skolkovo Foundation (resident “Enginix” LTD) became one of the world leaders in its segment.

According to statistics which the company collected in June 2013, Netcraft nginx served or proxied about 14% of the most visited sites of Top-1M busiest sites (one million of the most visited sites), leaving Microsoft IIS behind in this category and dropping behind only on Apache.

In April 2013 American office of Nginx Inc. (San Francisco) announced about employing Gus Robertson as its CEO who earlier held the position of Vice President for development on global markets in the Red Hat company. Robertson will help the company to commercialize business which functions on the basis of an open source. Nginx is an HTTP server and reverse proxy server as well as mail proxy-server. Software is created by a well-known programmer Igor Sysoyev. In Russia he maintains servers of many frequently vistited Russian sites including Yandex, Mail.Ru, VKontakte and Rambler. In foreign markets nginx (engine-x) is implemented for Netflix, Wordpress.com, FastMail.FM and other popular services.

Sergey Shubin, director of IT projects in the Information Technologies cluster of the Skolkovo Foundation commented on the Nginx news:

“Nginx is an example of a company which sticks to the principle “less talking, more working”. Its achievements tell the professional community a lot. Now colleagues are solving a very complex task – commercialization of their designs. I hope that we, IT cluster of the Skolkovo Foundation and Nginx team can be beneficial to each other in this work. I believe in this company’s success.”
