History of cooperation with Skolkovo

27 Mar  The Skolkovo Foundation and Cisco signed a new long-term document on March 28, 2012. It specifies joint R&D plans and envisages an increase in Cisco investments into its Russian innovation center, including the launch of R&D activities in the Skolkovo Innovations City. Major organizational and essential functional parameters have been agreed for OOO Cisco Innovation Center in Skolkovo until the year 2014.

23 Jan  Cisco became an official Skolkovo resident. OOO Cisco Innovation Center has started its operations.

24 Jun  a Memorandum of Understanding with the Skolkovo Foundation was signed.


Areas of cooperation with Skolkovo

R&D centre


Cisco, a key partner of the Skolkovo Foundation, has established an R&D division whose activities are focused on two areas:

  1. R&D focused on hardware and software development for Cisco products. R&D plans have been developed in cooperation with the Skolkovo Foundation and their implementation has started. The Cisco Innovation Center in Skolkovo has started to form groups of Russian engineers who will develop new emerging technologies. Main activities of the Center until the year 2014 include:
    • Video engineering
    • Smart grid developments
    • Smart and connected communities (S+CC) research.
  2. The goal of the Cisco Startup Laboratory is to expedite deployment of innovations by creating an open test laboratory and involving Russian educational institutions and businessmen. In the second half of 2012 Cisco will provide financial support to new Russian companies by holding the Cisco Innovation Award competition. It will identify new promising startups specializing in healthcare and educational. All contestants will be able to use appropriate technologies and tools. The winners will get initial capital for further development.

Education


Cisco will open the Cisco Entrepreneurship Institute at Skolkovo technopark where Skolkovo residents will be able to get training in successful IT company establishment and development. In addition, cooperation with Russian educational institutions is planned in the framework of joint emerging technology research projects. It will allow Russian scientists and graduates - together with Cisco engineers - to develop new technologies and bring them to market. Thus, Cisco will expand its investments in education.
