A joint press conference of Microsoft and the Skolkovo Foundation took place at the largest technological conference Microsoft Tech•Ed Russia 2011.
Viktor Vekselberg, the President of the Skolkovo Foundation, and Kevin Turner, Chief Operating Officer of Microsoft, spoke about end-year results of the first year of co-operation and announced plans for the future.
“Microsoft is one of the strategic partners for Skolkovo, mentioned Viktor Vekselberg, President of the Skolkovo Foundation. Today we are happy to announce expanding our co-operation. For 2012, we plan permanent organizational presence of Microsoft in the innograd Skolkovo in the form of Software Research and Development Center. I am sure that our co-operation will give a new impulse to development of the innovation ecosystem.”
On the opening day of the conference Cisco Expo-2011 held in the World Trade Center Moscow, representatives of the Skolkovo Foundation took part in the press conference “Expanding partnership between Cisco and the Skolkovo Foundation”.
Skolkovo innovation center will open its doors for the new project of the Cisco Systems Company, one of the world largest producers of networking equipment. 30 Russian engineers will be selected by the company in spring 2012 and will work at the innograd. Cisco plans to receive resident status of the Skolkovo Foundation by the end of this year.
An official ceremony of signing the agreement on co-operation between the Skolkovo Foundation and Samara regional government took part in the 5th Interregional Economic Forum “Samara Initiative: cluster policy as the basis for the innovational development of national economy”.
The goal of the Memorandum is long-term co-operation directed at creating new working places in the high-tech sector of the economy. The basis for that should be using the objects within the region: research, development and educational institutions, industrial enterprises and other organizations of Samara region.
The 6th solemn ceremony devoted to granting resident statuses of the innovation center Skolkovo took place in Moscow. Company “Apikont” was called project participant number 200. Major business of “Apikont” is problem solving in the sphere of ultra-high-density information storage in nanomagnetic transitions and developing principles of spin injection Terahertz emission in magnetic transitions.
Altogether 29 companies received Skolkovo resident statuses during the event. Of these, 4 companies joined the space cluster, 6 entered the energy effectiveness cluster, 15 joined information technology and computer science cluster, and 4 entered into the biomedical technology cluster. Vice-president of the Skolkovo Foundation, President Chief of Staff and Head of Councils of the Foundation Dmitry Kolosov handed in to the representatives of the companies crystal bricks as symbols of participation in the project.
On the platform of the 5th International exhibition and conference “ATOMECO-2011” nuclear cluster of the Skolkovo Foundation accepted new residents and held a number of events within the forum. Four companies received statuses of project participants. Among them were CJSV “Axion – rare and precious metals” with a project on developing and implementing technology for production of national ion-exchange materials, CJSV “Smart Logistic Group” with a mobile dosimeter-radiometer, “Radsintex” Ltd. with a project of gas-to-liquid conversion, and “Split” Ltd. with the project of developing a methodological software system for processing and interpreting data received by nuclear methods of geophysical research of the wells.
Besides that, there was held a round table “Innovation projects and entrepreneurial activity in back-end: opportunities for small and middle business” on the priority areas of the innovation development of the nuclear cluster of the Foundation. In the round table there were discussed regional models of back-end development, possibilities for creating small and middle innovative companies in Russia and necessary measures of government support and regulation.
Along with the Executive Director of the nuclear cluster of the Skolkovo Foundation Denis Kovalevich, the reports were presented by other Russian and international experts, including representatives of the State Corporation “Rosatom”, Fluor Government Group, USA, and World Nuclear Association (WNA).
On November 1, 2011 at the Skolkovo stand Adviser of the President of the Skolkovo Foundation on nuclear technology Alexander Fertman presented foresight of the nuclear technology cluster.
The Skolkovo Foundation and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) signed the resulting three-year partnership agreement on the program of creating the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology.
The document was signed by the President of the Skolkovo Foundation Viktor Vekselberg and the President of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Susan Hockfield. “Expanding co-operation between the Skolkovo Foundation and the MIT is advantageous not only for Russia. We are sure that it is an advantage for the world educational, research and innovation community,” mentioned Viktor Vekselberg. Education and research in the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology will be concentrated on solving interdisciplinary technological problems as opposed to teaching traditional academic subjects.
It is planned that 200 professors and 300 research fellows, including professors and researchers from abroad, will work at SkolkovoTech. Among professors there will be researchers from the MIT, Harvard University, Stanford University and other world-famous educational institutions.
First research centers of the university would be open already by 2012, pilot educational program should start in autumn 2013, and full program of education and research would be launched in 2014. The university should reach its designed form by 2020.
MIT is the world leading institution in science and technology, the innovator in robotics and artificial intelligence. The institute is also widely known in many other areas, including management, economics, linguistics, political science and philosophy.
There was held a discussion on architectural and design solutions and policy concept of the Skolkovo guest zone. At first, the representatives of the companies SANAA, Japan, and OMA, the Netherlands, presented reports on the concept of the guest zone. The conversation continued and covered the topics of residential and guest services, creating environment for development, creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship in Skolkovo. After that a discussion took place.
A number of people interested in creating comfortable environment for communication and business activity were invited to discuss the offered architectural and design solutions: among them architects, journalists, residents of the innovation center, entrepreneurs in the field of services, supervisors of the cultural projects.
The Skolkovo Foundation held a number of events in the International innovation forum in St. Petersburg. Among them were discussions and round tables on innovation development of the Russian regions and on creating the Association of Entrepreneurial Universities of Russia.
The Skolkovo Foundation held a number of events within the frames of the 10th International investment forum “SOCHI-2011”. The list of events included round tables and discussions on the actual issues of scientific and technological and commercial development of the country, signing agreements on co-operation, as well as presenting the first innovational magazine devoted to Skolkovo and urban environment “I+U” (Innovation + Urbanism).
As a result of the official visit of the Prime Minister of Great Britain David Cameron to Moscow there were signed agreements on co-operation between the Skolkovo Foundation and research centers of the United Kingdom that included the following:
The Master Plan of Skolkovo, developed by the French company AREP-Ville, was presented to the public in the French Embassy in Moscow.
The Skolkovo Foundation held the solemn ceremony of granting the statuses of the innovation center residents within the program of the City Day celebrations. 16 new participants entered into the biomedical, nuclear, IT and computer science and energy effectiveness clusters.
The Eurasian Economic Community (EEC) and the Skolkovo Foundation signed a cooperation agreement. The Memorandum was signed by the Secretary General of the Eurasian Economic Community - Tair Mansurov and the President of the Skolkovo Foundation, Viktor Vekselberg.
Skolkovo Foundation began working with the Chamber of Accounts of Russia. An agreement was signed by the Chairman of the Chamber of Accounts of the Russian Federation- Sergey Stepashin and the President of the Skolkovo Foundation - Viktor Vekselberg.
Viktor Vekselberg, President of the Skolkovo Foundation said, "The signing of the agreement is an important signal to our partners in implementing a series of measures to improve control and efficiency. Investments into innovation assume risk management skills, based on precise control over decision making.”
Skolkovo Foundation entered into an agreement with the Pangaea Ventures Investment Foundation. Under the terms of the agreement, the venture Foundation will finance residents participating in the Skolkovo project to the amount of $20 million. Pangaea Ventures will also have an opportunity to participate in the development of innovative technologies created in Skolkovo.
A cooperation agreement was signed between the Skolkovo Foundation and Ariel R & D was signed in Israel. As part of this agreement, the parties agreed to establish an Israel-Skolkovo centre. The main objectives of this centre will be to select Israeli innovative companies and to facilitate their presentation to the Skolkovo Foundation, to select and properly present projects, supported by the Skolkovo Foundation for submission to Israeli, North American and other foreign investors.
Skolkovo has registered its one hundredth resident. The total number of participants in the Skolkovo project on this day was increased by 31 companies. The one hundredth resident became the company Agent Plus, whose general director received an invitation for a two-week internship in Silicon Valley, as well as a certificate for the right to choose the “Best Office in Skolkovo”.
RKK Energia OJSC, in collaboration with the Skolkovo Foundation, will create an International Space centre, located at the Skolkovo Innovation centre.
At the Skolkovo Innovation centre a centre of exploratory studies, the M.F. Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems OJSC, was opened.
Skolkovo Foundation and the Ericsson Company have signed a cooperation agreement that provides for the establishment of the company called Ericsson Innovations Russia. The new company will manage the research activities of Ericsson in Skolkovo.
Skolkovo Foundation signed an agreement with the Russian Emergencies Ministry. The agreement provides for a modern system of comprehensive security and infrastructure in the Skolkovo Innovation centre, including the creation of appropriate divisions of Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia.
The Space Technologies and Telecommunications Cluster started its work. The cluster is headed by a cosmonaut and a member of the Russian Academy of Astronautics - Sergey Zhukov.
Skolkovo Foundation signed a cooperation agreement with the Boris Yeltsin Ural Federal University.
Skolkovo Foundation signed a cooperation agreement with Korean-Russian Business Council. KRBC will help to promote Skolkovo in Korea, to coordinate and attract Korean organizations to participate in target areas of the Russian Innovation centre.
Sberbank of Russia and the Skolkovo Foundation signed a Memorandum of Intent. The memorandum provides for the establishment of a Technopark, which will house on a single site, the IT infrastructure of Sberbank of Russia, and technological resources of the largest international and Russian IT Companies.
Skolkovo Foundation signed a framework agreement on partnership with the Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology of the Republic of Austria. The agreement calls for joint bilateral support of Russian and Austrian companies, specialising in research, technology development and innovations. President of the Skolkovo Foundation, Viktor Vekselberg said, "This is the first agreement we signed with a government of another country. The Austrian Ministry assumes the role of coordinator of not only relations between our project and the Austrian business community, but also with universities, educational and research circles."
Skolkovo Foundation entered into an agreement with the Nokia Siemens Networks. Under the agreement, NSN will open the Smart Lab in Skolkovo, and in 2014, the center of Excellence in Wireless Technology will be transferred to Skolkovo.
GE and the Skolkovo Foundation signed an agreement to open a research centre in Skolkovo. Fifty jobs will be created in the research centre.
Skolkovo Foundation signed an agreement with Rosstandart. The agreement provides for cooperation in ensuring unity of measurements, standards and conformity of assessment as part of the activities of the Skolkovo Foundation.
Siemens Company and the Skolkovo Foundation signed an agreement that spells out the key terms of cooperation for the establishment of the Siemens Research center in Skolkovo. It is planned that the Siemens R & D center will open in Skolkovo by 2015. It will employ about 150 people. The total investment into the project will reach approximately 60 million Euros, about 40 million Euros will be allocated by Siemens and 20 million Euros will come from Skolkovo grants.
Janssen Pharmaceuticals NV, Inc., Johnson and Johnson and the Skolkovo Foundation signed a preliminary agreement on cooperation.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Skolkovo Foundation announced the signing of an agreement on the basic conditions of cooperation for the establishment of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology. Within the cooperation, MIT will participate in the development and shaping of the organisational structure of the Institute and its educational and research programmes. Participation of MIT will play a key role in the ability of the institution to attract the best teachers, researchers, students, entrepreneurs and corporate partners to cooperate in Skolkovo.
Skolkovo Foundation and the DowChemical Company (represented by DowEuropeGmbH) signed an agreement of intent for providing for joint work on defining models of participation of Dow in the Skolkovo project. The document was signed at the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum. The parties identified priority areas for joint activities. According to the agreement, and under the Foundation for Energy Efficiency, Dow plans to conduct research and development in energy efficiency of buildings.
As part of the Korean-Russian Investment Forum, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Skolkovo Foundation and the Scientific and Research Institute of Electronics and Telecommunications of the Republic of Korea (ETRI).
St. Petersburg hosted the first Scientific Conference of the Skolkovo Foundation. The event, organised by the Information Technology and Energy Efficient Technologies Clusters, was attended by over 300 experts from the largest scientific centers, as well as Russian and foreign companies.
Skolkovo Foundation and Bauman Moscow State Technical University signed a cooperation agreement, under which the parties will create a joint business incubator. The business incubator will be based at Bauman University, with the support of the Skolkovo Technopark. The document was signed by the Rector of Moscow State Technical University and Council Member of the Skolkovo Foundation- Anatoly Alexandrov and the General Director of Skolkovo Technopark - Alexander Loktev.
VTB Capital Investment Management and Skolkovo Foundation signed a cooperation agreement. This agreement involves partnerships of the parties in the field of innovations. According to the agreement, VTB Capital Investment Management will have access to the database of projects in the Innovation City, and will become an investor in these companies.
A press conference of the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev was held in Skolkovo. The press conference was broadcast on federal TV channels and in the Internet, as well as being translated into four languages. More than 800 journalists were accredited to participate in the press conference.
About the international brand of Skolkovo: "I would like this brand to be really well known around the world. Not because it is the only place where people would want to invest money, but because in every development, in every case there must be some very significant, the most important element, which will attract all the work. In this regard, I hope that Skolkovo will be such an important element of modernisation, the most important, but certainly not the only one," said Dmitry Medvedev, in the course of communications with journalists.

Skolkovo Foundation and the company Maxwell Asset Management signed a cooperation agreement. This agreement will significantly simplify the interaction between the partners and will allow the companies to jointly Foundation the most promising projects in the field of medicine and biotechnology innovations.
A meeting of the Town Planning Board of the Skolkovo Foundation was held, changes to the urban concept and the final Master Plan for the Skolkovo centre of Innovative Research were approved.
